This friday, we had our Romeo and Juliet Act 1 Scene 5 performance. After months of preparation, we finally see the results of our hard work. It was an awesome performance. I feel proud of my group after the performance.
There was this part that I needed to change from my 'cousin' costume into a dress for the role of 'lady capulet'. I went to change with my fellow group mate, kaixuan who played the role of the nurse. She had to change into her nurse costume from her dancer costume. On the way back from the toilet, I accidentally dropped my costume and had to ask kaixuan to wait a while for me to retrieve my costume. That resulted her being late for her entrance in the performance. I felt a little guilty because it was partially my fault. I really hope that it won't affect our marks recorded for he performance. Or else I would feel guilty towards all my group members as it's my fault.
Even so, I enjoyed the whole process of the preparation and performance. It was fun and I enjoyed seeing all my friends in all sorts of different costumes. To sum it up, IT ROCKED! :>

From the past few lessons on literary devices, I have learnt that literary devices help to enhance a poem or passage. Literary devices are used to emphasize on key points in a poem or passage. There are lots of literary devices like similes, metaphors, auditory, olfactory, and many more. During the lesson, we were taught how to identify the different devices and how to analyse and explain how the author or poet uses each different literary device.
I find it difficult to master the literary devices as they are quite hard to understand. Some are much simpler to understand but others are totally foreign to me. Hopefully after a few more lessons I would be able to understand each device and how to spot it in a poem or passage. (:

An unseen poem or prose passage is something that most people might not have read or studied in detail before. I have learnt how to approach an unseen poem. Read the poem twice then picking out the keywords or words that seem interesting or hard to understand is one of the steps when you handle an unseen poem.
The notes taught me how to dig for meaning in an unseen poem and not to rush when studying an unseen poem. The notes also taught me the Dos and Don'ts when approaching unseen poems.
There are 2 techniques that will help me in organising my answer. The techniques are the IBC method and the PEEL method. The notes also teach me how to quote words or short phrases into my own sentences.

Last week we had our class performance for Macbeth Act 1 Scene 1. It was fun and quite embarrassing. When it was my group's turn to perform, we went on stage then my hat dropped. The background we made drop as well. I didn't prepare well as time was limited and my group was performing in the morning. It was a great experience though.
I only managed to see the performances by those groups that performed in the morning as i had SYF rehearsals in the afternoon. Therefore, I missed the performances by the rest of the class which performed in the afternoon. I feel that those performed in the morning did not really prepare much for their performances. I feel that my group did not do that well for the performance because we didn’t really use a witchy tone when we speak.
I think for the Romeo and Juliet act during the year end, we could work harder to improve our acting skills and come up with more props. We should also improve on our costumes to make the act more real as we have more time to prepare for. I really look forward to how my other classmates’ performances would look like! (:

Last lesson, Mrs. Woo told us to work in groups to share with each other our experiences on things which were foretold and it really came true. There were none that happened to me but some of my group mates have interesting stories though. All the groups had some sharing and presenting afterwards.
Through the presentation, I’ve learnt about stories and incidents my classmates shared. They were pretty interesting. I have learnt of some which were predicted and it came true. Some of them happened even though the people whom are told of it happening didn’t do anything about it. Some happened because those who were told of it went to make it happen.
I feel that this lesson had something to do with our previous lesson, Superstitions. Some people went to the fortune teller to tell their fortune. Visiting the fortune teller is a sort of superstition to me. After visiting the fortune teller, they will try their best to prevent bad stuff from happening and do their best for good things to happen. Labels: Learning Log 3

I have learnt the different superstitions of different religions. Even though some of them didn’t make sense, the lesson was still very interesting. (Example, when you buy a new shoe, u must bite it or else it will bite you in return.) I have also learnt from the lesson that Shakespeare included some superstitions in Macbeth. Through the lesson, I also have learnt that I have to work together with my group to pick out some of the best superstitions for us to present to the class. Last lesson’s acting of Macbeth’s act 1 scene 1 was very fun. I enjoyed watching the acts by my friends. They were very funny as well. I enjoyed the lesson but I really hope I won’t have to be the one acting in front of the class!

Learning Log 1
I have learnt how to write a cinquain through the literature lesson. I have learnt that ‘Cinquain’ is from the word ‘Cinq’, meaning 5 in French. The whole cinquain poem must be describing about the first word, or title, of the poem. Through the lesson’s group work, I have learnt the importance of teamwork. The group members must agree on the topic and what to write about the cinquain poem.
I have also learnt the NE value of respect when doing the cinquain poem with my group members. We must not look down on one’s idea even though it is not the ideal answer we all want. We should respect each person’s opinion.
I hope to have more group work especially when we can think of ideas on how to write poems. In this way, we all can learn from each other in ways that can benefit our poem writing skills.
We should have some games during our group work. Teachers should come up with more fun ways of learning literature and not only going through texts after texts. Labels: cinquain, Learning log 1
